Wrye Bash for managing mods and making a bash patch after you finalize and sort your mod list. That can't be done on Console of course but iirc at least Xbox One X enhances Oblivion to 4k with better filtering. If anyone is interested in replaying Oblivion I'll leave some info on modding below. I'm not sure how long it will keep my attention before RE2 comes out but for now I am enjoying this. Replaying through it now with mods and its certainly a better experience then it was years ago on console. For example when I first tried modding it a while ago a threw everything I could at the game but it struggled to hit 40 fps with an overclocked i7 and gtx 1080. Modding can't fix everything and the game will have performance problems when pushed to far with mods. There are also nmods like Unique landscapes which address the uninteresting world design though I don't personally use it due to performance reasons. There are plenty of textures and other visual enhancements that can make it look much nicer, mods like Oscuros Oblivion Overhaul can fix it so enemies don't level with you, Oblivion Character Overhaul makes NPC's actually look decent, and Snu's Dungeons helps a lot so that dungeons don't all feel the same. A game needing a half dozen mods just to run acceptably on modern hardware is ridiculous. Modding this game requires a bit of work to get it to run acceptably though which is rather off-putting.

Thankfully I'm not stuck with the 360 version like I used to be and can play on PC with mods to address the issues. I still think it was a good game but its flaws are much more obvious years later. Then there are issues like all enemies scaling with which hurts any sense of progression, NPC's look like potatoes and are mostly uninteresting a recycle some of the same dialogue, combat sucks, and of course the same issue all Bethesda games have lots of bugs.

In hindsight I don't get why I loved exploring all the dungeon when they all looked and felt the same. The Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood are still great but those feel like the only quest lines that are really memorable. Oblivion's world is pretty boring in comparison though its expansion felt a bit better. Morrowind and even Skyrim have more interesting world to explore. I played Morrowind after Oblivion and that helped me see that Oblivion's world design was a step back from its predecessor.

It wasn't even that good looking for a game at that time. The game is not as pretty as nostalgia would like me to think.

Now over 10 years since the game came out and I first played the game and my thoughts on it have changed a lot. The thieves guild and Dark Brotherhood quest lines were fantastic some of my favorite quests in any video game and I loved how may dungeons there were for me to explore and loot. I remember the first time stepping out the the tutorial dungeon into the world and feeling amazed and overwhelmed by how beautiful and massive the world was. Back then it had been one of my favorite games of all time and I poured 100's of hours into it which is not something I have the luxury of doing now. The last time I gave the game more then a few hours of actual playtime had to be before Skyrim came out in 2011. I'm not counting trying the mod called Nehrim which was basically its own game. Most of that time had been spent modding rather then playing the game too. Ended up deciding on finally giving Oblivion some more time on PC after having abandoning a short lived play through I had modded when some newer games released. I finished the last big game I bought and wanted to revisit something older that I used to love but hadn't really touched in a long time before I focus on RE2 remake and later the ridiculous amount of interesting games coming in February and March.
